Synopsis

On a scenic hill overlooking a small town stands a tree not yet very tall. Richard and Millie meet under it, fall in love, and get married. On their wedding day, Richard asks Millie to wait a little longer for a ring. Money is going to be tight for the young couple on his salary. In due course, they are blessed with twin daughters.

Their home is a warm, happy one filled with smiles as the children grow up and eventually move out to a place of their own. But 50 years from the time they first met, Richard’s health is declining, and he must spend much of his time in bed. One day Richard asks Millie to take him in his wheelchair to the tree where they first met. There he finally fulfills his promise of a ring by twisting together two small flowers plucked from under the tree. Soon after, on Millie’s birthday, Richard breathes his last. But the memories they made together will remain forever.

It is a picture book for grown-ups, with a story of love that prompts readers to think about what really matters in life.
