Synopsis

The satisfaction of a hard-fought contest is portrayed in a humorous way.

A cow who’s so weak, a hare who’s so slow, and a pig who’s so skinny that no other cow or hare or pig wants to compete with them because they’re such pushovers find improbable opponents in a sheep who’s so strong, a tortoise who’s so nimble, and a squirrel who’s so hefty that none of their own kind want to compete with them because they can’t be beat. The cow and the sheep arm wrestle, the hare and the tortoise run a race, and the pig and the squirrel have a sumo match, and for once they all enjoy a good contest that exhausts both sides as they vie for victory down to the very end before declaring the battle a draw. Each contest is so satisfying that the two opponents immediately agree that they should do it again sometime soon, competing at something else. The only question is what.

Each pair is still asking themselves that question when the six of them meet and decide they’ll all six compete together at tug-of-war. Inserted in the tug-of-war scene is a half-page that can be flipped back and forth to show the advantage going first to one side, then to the other. When the next full page is turned, they all decide to call this contest a draw as well.
