Books from Japan makes debut at Frankfurt Book Fair

The 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair, held from October 10 to 14, attracted 281,753 visitors, a slight increase over last year. Publishers from 100 countries displayed their wares at some 7,300 booths. Hall 6, where the booths of Japanese publishers were located, was the scene of over 1,000 agents negotiating rights sales, a 4.4 percent gain from 2011. Some 1,300 rights meetings took place during the course of this year's fair.

Through a special Frankfurt Book Fair corner set up on its website, Books from Japan provided support to Japanese publishers exhibiting their works in Hall 6. The online corner received praise from publishers, both Japanese and non-Japanese, who accessed it during negotiations and found it a quick, convenient way to check out books under discussion as well as others by the same author. Books from Japan plans to participate in more international book fairs in the future through online book fair corners that will help introduce Japanese publications to a wider overseas audience.
